Maritime pine cones have always been collected by hand. Collection spans the period from October to May throughout the Aquitaine pine forests, according to the different areas of fruitage. At this stage, the cones are still closed, fondly guarding their precious seeds.
After initial drying in the open air in wooden pallet bins, they are placed in traditional clearing areas where their scales begin to open naturally in the hot sunshine. If the weather is not warm enough, they are placed in a pulsed air oven under controlled temperatures.
When opening, maritime pine cones release fine brown seeds with a distinctive flange. This flange is detached very gently using a rotary cylinder designed especially by our team. Finally, seeds are washed and dried in order to eliminate any superficial impurities that might have collected.
The extraction of the oil contained in maritime pine seeds is performed by initial cold pressing, which is solvent-free. Decanted then filtered, it is then conditioned with nitrogen. This virgin oil needs no deodorizing or refining. It is naturally rich in vitamin E, which gives the product good oxidative stability. In great demand for its many benefits, the oil also stands out for its rarity: it takes 150,000 seeds to produce one litre of oil.
Our production is subjected to the strictest conditions of hygiene and undergoes regular testing to ensure the very highest quality.
Thanks to our expert research work, we have also developed a plant extract of maritime pine seed with a very high content in polyphenols, produced using natural solvents and a purpose-designed extracting process in order to preserve all the seed’s native ingredients. Now under continual development, this part of our range is destined for significant growth in partnership with our clients.
